Trip to York

Just come back from a very enjoyable (but exhausting) couple of days in York.  We had promised to take Jamie somewhere before the end of term and decided on York as myself and daddy had been previously and we felt Jamie would like the history.  We booked our visit to the Yorvik Viking Centre before, and according to the site it was basically sold out after 10.30am.  We realised once we arrived in York this was due to school trips.

On the Sunday we set off early and arrived at the National Railway Museum around lunch time.  Daddy was loving it, but Jamie kept saying how bored he was, until I discovered 'The Missing Passenger'....This was a murder mystery exhibition trail on a number of the platforms where we had to find the clues and solve the case.  I am happy to say that we managed to discover who murdered Edward Robey!!

The museum is free so we didn't mind paying the £9 to park across the road.  As usual there were lots of things to see and do.  We were a little upset that the Miniature Railway was not working (again!) but all went on the Mallard Simulator (although mummy was a bit worried about being trapped in!)  We saw the Bullet Train, the ambulance Trains and watched the Turntable Talk and Demonstration.

We stayed in the Hampton by Hilton hotel which was perfect in its location and facilities. parking across the road at the NCP car park but special rates as staying at the Hilton and not too far from Pizza Express for tea.

We got up early Monday morning and had (full English) breakfast before making our way to the Jorvik Viking Centre.

Then we went to the Yorkshire Museum where they were holding an exhibition entitled Viking: Rediscover the Legend, which meant more Viking things, this time there was dressing up:

Daddy and Jamie also did some Viking Brass Rubbing and got engrossed in some virual reality glasses (Viking VR), see: www.york.ac.uk/vikingvr .  We also managed to visit York Castle Museum; the best bit being the indoor streets, go on a merry go round, see some naked cyclists and get involved in calling for an ambulance for someone who fell down the side of York Castle (very steep) sides.  Thankfully no photos of dislocated shoulders and blood...(Jamie kept shouting "I know CPR") xx

We were a bit naughty as Jamie had Monday off school, but I think the amount he learnt over the weekend certainly made up for it, and I don't feel at all guilty for letting him miss one day.
