Advice on Writing on Parenting

While reading my March edition of Writing Magazine www.writers-online.co.uk/ I came across a question from someone who was asking about parenting as a writing topic. The advice given was; simply being a mum won't gain reader interest - you have to be very specific, so that readers do identify. Read the specialist mum and baby magazines, and also look at Family sections of national newspapers. Examples given were first time mum, first year as a working mum and dealing with parenting-induced fatigue.

I suppose when I started this blog I thought that it would lead me to write regularly on parenting related matters which would then lead to a publishing contract of some sort! In reality, this is a hell of a lot more difficult than it sounds and my blog has remained more of a diary and collection of information I have found useful. I think I have had a few moments of inspiration or possibly even humorous reflection over the last 3/4 years but it has been far from publishable material. That said, I still enjoy looking back and reading what I have written and remembering the lovely details that might otherwise have been forgotten.
