Happy Mothers Day!!

Had a fantastic day and managed to cram in sooo much. Although I did not get breakfast in bed, I got much better when daddy took Jamie out to see Nanna Mo for a few hours in the morning. For dinner we took Nanna B to a local pub (The Lincolnshire Poacher) where we met cousin Noah, uncle Michael and Auntie Hannah. I wasn't sure about the meal but the outside play area was fantastic - as was the weather - so the boys had a fantastic day. The Nanna went back with Michael etc. while we took Jamie to see Nanna Grace. Then back to pick up Nanna B and have a few glasses of home made wine - very nice!! Back home and daddy decided to top the night off with some ice cream. Bad move. We all felt incredibly sick!!

Jamie picked the daffodils in the photo himself from our garden, and I got some lovely earrings as well.....

Pox Over....

It took well over a week but the pox eventually left us. Because of Nursery refusing to take Jamie while the spots were still red I ended up taking two days off work; which meant I was not at work for a whole week. On my return I was told that I would not be paid for these two days as I claimed for Wednesday and Thursday and Jamie had had the Pox since the Sunday which means I had ample time to find someone to look after him. Unfortunately I didn't, but not being paid doesn't really matter now as while Jamie was sick I did manage to go to an interview. I have to admit to being less than prepared as I had hardly slept the night before; as Jamie had been very grumpy, but I must have done something right as they offered me the job!!

Unfortunately, they want me to start on Jamie's birthday. I would have asked for the day off if I had still been in my current job but I didn't like to say no. I don't think Jamie will mind as I am currently trying to do some last minute preparations for his Pirate Party which takes place the weekend before his birthday and daddy is going to have the day off with him anyway.

35 Months!!

I can't believe Jamie is nearly 3!!
This is what Gurgle have to say about 35 months: 'Toddler social skills are a work in progress. Your child just doesn’t understand what makes other people, and children, tick. You often may see him just watching other children play without joining in, or playing alongside other toddlers, doing the exact same activity but totally ignoring his counterpart. It’s called parallel play, but although your child may appear to be unaware of other children even though they’re sitting right next to him he likely is very much aware of them and keeping a close eye on what they’re doing! Even though he may not interact with them he is getting a sense of companionship that will gradually develop into co-operation and shared play.'

I do hope so. At the moment there seems to be a bit of trouble sharing!!

The Pox has finally reached us

After being in close proximity to a lot of cases even since Noah came down on Boxing Day, Jamie has finally come out in the spots - lots of lovely bright red spots! We told him that they are Lucy's spots and he keeps saying; "I want to give hem back to Lucy".

Work have agreed to give me two days Carers Leave as Nursery won't take him until the spots turn to scabs!

Been on the Internet and the NHS website says; Chickenpox is a mild and common childhood illness that most children catch at some point. It causes a rash of red, itchy spots that turn into fluid-filled blisters. They then crust over to form scabs, which eventually drop off. Some children have only a few spots, but in others they can cover the entire body. The spots are most likely to appear on the face, ears and scalp, under the arms, on the chest and stomach and on the arms and legs.

One thing I did not know was that Children usually catch chickenpox in winter and spring, particularly between March and May.

Chickenpox is most infectious from one to two days before the rash starts, until all the blisters have crusted over (usually five to six days after the start of the rash).

Chickenpox in children is considered a mild illness, but expect your child to feel pretty miserable and irritable while they have it. Your child is likely to have a fever at least for the first few days of the illness. The spots can be incredibly itchy. Jamie has been very clingy and grumpy but has not been too scratchy. The worst place seems to be in his mouth; where he keeps saying "There is something in my mouth". We have watched a lot of CBeebies this week!

There is no specific treatment for chickenpox, but there are pharmacy remedies which can alleviate symptoms, such as paracetamol to relieve fever and calamine lotion and cooling gels to ease itching. Calamine cream was recommended. He has had some Ibuprofen liquid but refused to take it today!

In most children, the blisters crust up and fall off naturally within one to two weeks.

A Conversation between two Toddlers

While at cousin Lucy's (see: http://grumpymumtobe.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/happy-birthday-lucy.html) I attempted to write down a conversation between Lucy and Jamie. I am not sure whether or not they were actually having a conversation but some of it made sense!!

It went something like this:

I’m having hearts in my do-nut.
I think it tastes of vanilla.
That one’s Brown Sauce.
This is mine. You can’t have it.
I’m not having conkers.
I don’t like yours. Chop, Chop.
Want to try yours a little bit.
Eat your dinner.
Mine not yours.
You can’t have it.
That’s the problem. You don’t like conkers.
I’m having some peppers on it.
I just made this dinner and its yummy.
I’m not having any more dinner. Its having me.
I’m full up.
Can I come to the cafe again?
We want to eat your dinner.
Get off the settee (to me).

Since coming back from the weekend Jamie's talking has once again come on in leaps and bounds. Even one of the ladies at Nursery commented on it this week. He is getting to be a right little chatter box - i wonder where he gets that from??
